The Tumbleweed Ranch
Tumbleweed Park, a 154-acre regional park located on the southwest corner of Germann and McQueen was acquired in 1995. One of the unique elements of the park is Tumbleweed Ranch, a 14-acre outdoor learning environment that recreates a nineteenth century farm with a collection of historic homes, buildings and farm equipment.
Tumbleweed Ranch, a part of Chandler Museum, hosts school, scouting and family programs open to the public throughout the year, giving visitors a personal hands-on experience with history. Each year, approximately 2,300 visitors learn about Chandler history through field trips, hosted at the Ranch.
To further give a glimpse into the past, visitors can see the McCroskey House, a farm bungalow, built in 1917. It is open for tours during field trips and special events.
The Ranch is also the location of the Annual Chandler Chuck Wagon Cook-Off, which takes place in November. A rare, up-close look at Western history, this family-friendly culinary event features authentic 1880's chuck wagons. Teams from across the Southwest compete to cook up the best meals fit for the wagon train using slow-cook, wood-fire methods from the time period.
